Izmir is now more accessible: Tashkent receives SunExpress’s first flight

Today at Tashkent International Airport, a significant event occurred that marks a new chapter in air connectivity between Uzbekistan and Türkiye. For the first time, the capital hosted a scheduled flight operated by Turkish airline SunExpress, which has started direct services on the Izmir – Tashkent – Izmir route.

Following aviation tradition, the first aircraft received a stunning water salute. Passengers enjoyed a lively terminal scene with national delicacies, a photo spot, and a warm reception signifying the start of the new route. The inaugural flight carried 170 passengers to Tashkent, while 169 passengers flew back from Izmir, showing high interest in the new route from the outset.

The launch of this route is especially significant not only for the airline but also for enhancing transportation links between the two nations. For the first time, Tashkent and Izmir are now connected by direct scheduled flights, which greatly cuts down travel time and offers greater convenience for tourists, businesspeople, and cultural visitors alike.

Flights will run four times weekly, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Boeing 737-800 planes. This new route opens up more opportunities for tourism, business trips, and strengthening humanitarian connections between Uzbekistan and Türkiye.

For Uzbekistan Airports, SunExpress’s arrival marks another stage in the expansion of its international route network. The entry of a new Turkish carrier increases competition on one of the most in-demand routes. Flights between the two countries are currently operated by Turkish Airlines and AJet, while SunExpress’s entry into the market promises passengers a wider choice of schedules, fares, and services.
