Gender equality in the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan
An international training workshop on “Gender equality in the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan” took place at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The workshop, organized in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank and O’zbekiston Milliy Elektr Tarmoqlari JSC, was attended by local and foreign officials of the sphere and women working in the system.
UzA correspondent interviewed the Deputy Chairperson of the Council for Gender Consultations of Uzbekistan Milliy Elektr Tarmoqlari JSC Feruza Khojimurodova about the workshop’s objectives and expected results from this event.
– The Ministry of Energy pays excellent attention to increasing the role of women in the fuel and energy sector, creating broad opportunities for them and ensuring the exchange of experience on an international scale, – said Ms. Khojimurodova. – The issue of gender equality is supported both in political and legal aspects in Uzbekistan.
The Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 has been approved. This document provides for increasing the number of women in government, creating educational opportunities, and fighting against violence and harassment against women.
Programs to support women are being implemented with the assistance of international organizations. Thanks to such attention, significant results have been achieved in recent years in promoting gender equality in Uzbekistan and increasing the number of women working in the energy sector.
Views on such topics as the development of gender institutional competence and capacity building of gender centers in energy companies were exchanged at the event.
Issues of training women for energy sector enterprises in creating a healthy workplace environment, safety, and inclusivity are being addressed within the framework of the project, including between energy companies and educational institutions.
At the event, which was attended by more than 50 active women working in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Cabinet of Ministers, Family and Women’s Committee, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, energy companies of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia, fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan, the participants exchanged views on best practices.
