Fifth Samarkand Forum on Human Rights: turning international commitments into effective action
The Fifth Samarkand Human Rights Forum is continuing in Tashkent, addressing pressing issues in implementing international human rights commitments and commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s National Human Rights Center.
According to the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the forum featured a high-level session entitled “From international commitments to effective implementation: the role of national human rights implementation mechanisms”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Human Rights Center.
The session brought together representatives of government agencies, national human rights institutions, international organizations, and the expert community from various countries.
Participants focused on interagency coordination, improving national implementation mechanisms, and applying international best practices.
Following the discussions, participants noted the importance of strengthening national mechanisms for implementing international human rights standards, expanding international cooperation, and developing practical solutions to ensure the effective fulfillment of international commitments.
Participants also emphasized the importance of advancing the right to development and strengthening international solidarity in response to contemporary human rights challenges.
The Fifth Samarkand Forum on Human Rights also featured an award ceremony for the winners of the “Capstone Project Uzbekistan” human rights education program.
The ceremony was one of the forum’s events to support human rights education, enhance professional knowledge, and foster a new generation of human rights specialists.
