Fatma Rembo: “There are insufficient opportunities globally to involve young people in political processes”

Fatma Rembo, a Tanzanian Parliament member attending the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Samarkand, expressed her views on the importance of this prominent forum.

– Today, young parliamentarians are addressing issues like human rights violations, political pressure, and sexual violence.

Another significant issue is the global scarcity of opportunities and resources for young people to engage in political processes. An examination of parliamentary activities worldwide reveals that very few parliamentarians are under 40. This is partly due to the insufficient conditions that hinder young people’s access to electoral processes and their participation in parliamentary work.

Furthermore, platforms that facilitate important decisions often do not provide enough space for young people, limiting their active involvement in politics and their ability to take decisive action.

Therefore, we must develop our potential, support other young parliamentarians, and encourage young people’s active participation in decision-making processes.

Whenever an opportunity to participate in elections presents itself, we must proceed confidently. We should support and protect each other, recognizing that our responsibility extends beyond the current generation to future ones.

Tanzania will host the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. I invite everyone to attend this event and especially look forward to welcoming young parliamentarians to our country.
