Emerging opportunities for environmental reforms
The Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 now serves as a key platform for enhancing Uzbekistan’s international partnerships in environmental diplomacy and sustainable growth.
As part of the exhibition, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, held a series of meetings with the heads of leading international organizations and institutions. The parties discussed biodiversity conservation, adaptation to climate change, the introduction of green innovations, environmental education, and sustainable economic development.
At a meeting with Grethel Aguilar, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), issues of biodiversity conservation, the broad introduction of nature-based solutions, and the development of ecotourism were discussed. Areas of cooperation were also identified to develop an updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, create a Red Book of Central Asia, and develop transboundary protected areas.

During talks with representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), issues such as green industrialization, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, effective waste management, and the modernization of the industrial sector were discussed. The parties also considered prospects for supporting climate innovations, developing startups, and implementing new projects aimed at ensuring climate resilience.

Issues related to promoting the unique natural heritage of Uzbekistan and Central Asia internationally, conducting joint scientific research, and producing documentary films and digital content were discussed with representatives of the National Geographic Society. Particular attention was given to the initiative to organize joint expeditions to study the Aral Sea region and mountain and desert ecosystems.


During a meeting with the leadership of Oman’s Environment Authority, opportunities for practical cooperation in combating desertification, managing water resources, conserving biodiversity, and managing waste were discussed. An initiative was proposed to conduct joint research on drought-resistant plant cultivation and sand stabilization technologies.
