Bukhara hosts Second Asian Women’s Forum
The Second Asian Women’s Forum on “Investment in Women – Foundation of Sustainable Growth: Expanding Political, Economic, Social and Environmental Opportunities for Women” has begun in Bukhara.
The event is attended by high-ranking representatives of more than 20 foreign countries and international organizations, including international financial institutions, women parliamentarians from East, Southeast, South, and Central Asian countries, and representatives of governments and diplomatic missions of foreign states in Uzbekistan.
The forum is also attended by representatives of local government bodies and civil society institutions, business circles, women leaders, political analysts, social activists, and scientists – about 250 people in total.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan sent an address to the participants of the Second Asian Women’s Forum. It was read during the opening ceremony by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration.
In her opening remarks, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva noted that ensuring gender equality is one of the priorities of state policy in Uzbekistan.
It was noted that the forum was a practical outcome of the initiative proposed by the President of Uzbekistan at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
It was noted that women’s participation in political processes and the decision-making system is steadily expanding in Uzbekistan. Currently, the country ranks 35th in the world in terms of the share of women in parliament.
Expanding women’s opportunities in education, science, innovation, and entrepreneurship is one of the key areas of reform being implemented in New Uzbekistan. Today, women make up 53 percent of higher education students. Women account for 60 percent of scientists.
It was noted that the forum will become an important platform for exchanging best practices among Asian countries, improving legislation and practical mechanisms to support women, and launching joint programs in education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and artificial intelligence.
