Asian Games: Uzbekistan ranks in the top five with 31 medals
Events held on September 25 at the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Japan have concluded, with Uzbekistan’s athletes winning five medals.
In a notable achievement, Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Khodjayev won the gold medal in the men’s hammer throw with a distance of 74.38 meters.
Uzbekistan’s athletes also won three silver medals in canoe sprint. In the women’s K4 500m event, the quartet of Ekaterina Shubina, Arina Tanatmisheva, Milana Dushev-Janic, and Shahrizoda Mavlonova finished in second place.
In the women’s C2 500m event, Shokhsanam Sherzodova and Nilufar Zokirova earned silver. Vladlen Denisov also finished second in the men’s C1 500m event.
In artistic gymnastics, Uzbekistan national team member Rasuljon Abdurakhimov scored 14.433 points on the parallel bars to claim the bronze medal. In the women’s floor exercise final, Dildora Aripova scored 13.200 points, finishing fourth.
Meanwhile, in the men’s football tournament, Uzbekistan’s U23 national team, led by Ravshan Khaydarov, faced Saudi Arabia U23 in the quarterfinals at Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya. Goals from Dilshod Murtazoyev, Azizbek Tulqinbekov, and Firdavs Abdurakhmonov secured a 3-0 win for Uzbekistan.
On September 30, Uzbekistan will meet the winner of the Japan – DPRK match in the semifinals.
Uzbekistan has now won 31 medals – seven gold, 15 silver, and nine bronze – placing fifth in the overall standings.
China leads the medal table with 98 gold, 37 silver, and 24 bronze medals. Japan is second with 28 gold, 43 silver, and 44 bronze medals, and the Republic of Korea is third with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 34 bronze medals.
The top ten also include Kazakhstan, with 8 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze medals; Uzbekistan, with 7 gold, 15 silver, and 9 bronze; Thailand, with 7 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze; Iran, with 6 gold, 11 silver, and 7 bronze; Hong Kong, with 4 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze; the DPRK, with 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze; and Bahrain, with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
