Last year, a $6.2 million grant agreement was signed between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change and the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) to construct a waste-processing facility in Sharof Rashidov district, Jizzakh region.

Recently, representatives of K-eco held a working meeting with officials from the regional administration for ecology, environmental protection, and climate change, as well as representatives of the regional prosecutor’s office, tax service, and customs authorities. The parties addressed issues related to importing and integrating specialized waste-disposal technologies.

Upon completion of the project, waste will be recycled, landfill gas will be used to generate electricity, and processed waste will become a new source of revenue.

The project, located at the central landfill in Sharof Rashidov district of Jizzakh region, is scheduled to be completed by December 2026. The landfill covers a total area of 25 hectares, with more than 300 tons of solid household waste delivered daily from the city of Jizzakh and Sharof Rashidov district.
