A modern bridge is being built to connect central Samarkand with “Shirin” residential area
Continuing his visit to Samarkand region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of construction of a bridge over the Qoradaryo River.
This major infrastructure project aims to optimize traffic flow, improve road safety, and reduce congestion. The bridge will connect the “Shirin” residential area, currently under construction, to Samarkand and the international airport.

The project is valued at 310 billion UZS. The bridge will be 780 meters long, 29.8 meters wide and 2 meters high. It will have four traffic lanes and a capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles per day.

Once the bridge is commissioned, the distance between the “Shirin” residential area and the city center will drop from 23 to 4 kilometers, cutting travel time by 30 minutes.

The President was briefed on the project’s technical solutions and traffic management capabilities.

A discussion with local representatives was also held on-site.
“In 2016, Uzbekistan welcomed just 1.2 million tourists. Today, Samarkand alone welcomes 5 million tourists annually. Could we have imagined achieving such results? Of course, today’s world is driven by competition. We must also strengthen our position in this competitive environment.
If we develop projects wisely and manage logistics efficiently, we can reduce people’s expenses and travel time. After all, a city is for its people!
This bridge was one of my long-cherished goals. Today, that dream has come true”, the President said.

Elaborating on the idea that a city should serve its people, the Head of State emphasized everyone’s responsibility to the nation and the homeland.

“Yesterday, in my speech, I repeatedly emphasized the phrases ‘our own’, ‘we ourselves’, ‘our identity’ and ‘ours’. We must live by this conviction: ‘I am a citizen of Uzbekistan. I work for the well-being of my people, study for the sake of my people and strive for new achievements to build my future’”.
