Uzbekistan – Russia: how regions and businesses drive economic cooperation
Expanding trade, fostering industrial cooperation, and entering new markets are key priorities in Uzbekistan’s foreign economic relations. Alongside cooperation with foreign partners, direct ties between regions and enterprises play a particularly important role.
Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia goes beyond the mutual supply of goods. Industrial projects, technology exchange, and stronger business ties also play an important role. Industry exhibitions offer a convenient platform for enterprises to engage in direct dialogue and identify new areas of cooperation.
The AgroExpo Uzbekistan 2026, to be held in Tashkent on November 25-27, will give manufacturers, entrepreneurs and potential buyers a chance to explore products and technologies and build new business connections.
Trade between Uzbekistan and Russia continues to expand
Economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia spans trade, joint investment projects, and interregional ties. In recent years, growing trade volumes and initiatives in various industrial sectors have remained key areas of this cooperation.
The Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade reported that bilateral trade reached $13 billion in 2025, up 8.4 percent. Uzbekistan’s exports increased 12.2 percent to $4.4 billion.
From January to August 2026, trade between the two countries totaled $9.2 billion.
According to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov, bilateral trade rose 20 percent in January-July, reaching nearly $7.5 billion.
Industrial projects are receiving particular attention as part of bilateral cooperation.
At the 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, held in Fergana on October 6, plans were announced to launch 17 joint projects worth a total of $350 million in the chemical industry, agricultural processing and metalworking. A Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development for 2026-2040 was also signed.
Beyond trade and industry, economic cooperation is expanding in tourism and interregional partnerships. Nearly one million Russian tourists visited Uzbekistan in 2025. Around 80 regions of Russia have established trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian ties with Uzbekistan.
Over the past decade, bilateral trade has increased from $4 billion to $13 billion, and the portfolio of joint projects has surpassed $50 billion. Interregional cooperation remains a promising area for further development.
Collaboration between regions enhances
Industrial cooperation, the exchange of technological expertise, and the establishment of direct trade links between enterprises play an important role in the economic relations between Uzbekistan’s regions and Russia. Cooperation with Perm Krai is also developing in these areas.
The government of Perm Krai and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan have signed their first roadmap for developing industrial cooperation. The oil and gas, chemical and mechanical engineering industries, along with supplies of high-tech equipment, were identified as promising areas. Initiatives in these sectors offer opportunities to establish joint production facilities and localize technologies.
Business missions and direct negotiations are essential for strengthening economic ties, enabling entrepreneurs to assess market demand, meet potential partners and discuss mutually beneficial proposals.
From October 19 to 23, 2026, a business mission organized by the Perm regional branch of Business Russia visited Uzbekistan. The itinerary included Perm, Tashkent, and Samarkand.
During the Perm – Uzbekistan business dialogue in Tashkent, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed. Uzbekistan entrepreneurs were invited to make a reciprocal visit to Perm.
At the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, representatives discussed companies’ business needs and agreed to share commercial proposals.
The delegation also visited one of Central Asia’s largest technology parks, which manufactures a wide range of products, from household appliances to elevators, escalators, and industrial equipment. These visits offer opportunities to negotiate with potential partners and explore prospects for business cooperation.
AgroExpo Uzbekistan 2026: dialogue between manufacturers and buyers
The AgroExpo Uzbekistan 2026 international exhibition will offer another platform for direct dialogue between manufacturers and prospective buyers.
The event will cover agricultural machinery, crop production, horticulture and livestock farming. Organizers have arranged visitor registration, exhibition stand bookings and a business program. For farmers, agricultural holdings and processing enterprises, the exhibition offers a chance to explore manufacturers’ products, compare equipment specifications, and discuss after-sales service and delivery terms.
According to Russia’s Trade Representation in Uzbekistan, Rostselmash, Tenzo-M, and PK Yaroslavich will participate in the exhibition.
Perm Krai will also present a collective exhibition featuring veterinary medicines, agricultural machinery, loaders, attachments, and other tractor equipment.
The business program will feature the 9th International Poultry Forum, the 3rd National Farmers Forum, and an auction of breeding livestock.
Meetings during the exhibition will provide opportunities to discuss product delivery terms, explore options for localizing equipment production, and establish joint manufacturing operations.
Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, along with industry events such as AgroExpo Uzbekistan 2026, helps strengthen economic ties between enterprises in the two countries.
