The effectiveness of fighting illegal firearm trafficking is improving
A seminar titled “Combating the illicit trafficking of firearms and ammunition: national and international experience, digital technologies and modern threats” was organized by the Agency for Control of Narcotics and Firearms, together with partner organizations, at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The seminar was attended by Rustam Khatamov, the Head of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Jobir Azimov, Deputy Director of the Agency, Alexander Fedulov, Deputy Regional Representative of UNODC for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran, and Pakistan, Ambassador Antti Karttunen, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, and other experts.

The event gathered over 800 participants from across the entire country, including employees from the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the National Guard, and the Customs Committee, along with students from the Law Enforcement Academy, the University of Public Security, the Customs Institute, and the Research Institute of Criminology.

During the seminar, topics covered included liability issues for offenses, tactics and methods of investigative actions, the use of modern digital technologies in operational-search activities, the role and importance of forensic units, threats related to the production of weapons using 3D printing, countering illicit arms trafficking in cyberspace, modern methods of fighting smuggling, and the experiences of the United Nations and the OSCE in this area.
