Uzbekistan strengthens international cooperation in education
Warsaw is hosting the 67th session of the General Assembly of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) from October 5 to 8.
The event has brought together more than 120 representatives of education ministries, research institutions and universities from over 50 countries.
The participants are discussing the IEA’s strategic priorities, the next stages of the international PIRLS and TIMSS studies, new research initiatives, and issues in international cooperation. A delegation led by Abduvali Ismailov, Rector of the National Institute of Pedagogical Excellence named after A. Avloni, is also participating in the session.
Participants are also discussing the development of Uzbekistan’s education system, the institute’s activities, and the work underway as part of international studies assessing educational achievement.
One of the key agenda items will be the admission of the National Institute of Pedagogical Excellence named after A. Avloni to the IEA. According to a statement from the institute, the issue will be put to a vote by the General Assembly. Membership in the association provides an opportunity to participate in decision-making on international studies and strategic initiatives and to help shape approaches to educational development at the international level.
The issue of Uzbekistan’s membership in the IEA was first raised in 2023. In 2026, the IEA Standing Committee considered the initiative and added it to the General Assembly agenda.
