Uzbekistan and Georgia develop a partnership in ecology
An online meeting was held between the Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jusipbek Kazbekov and a delegation led by the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili.
The parties discussed implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation in ecology, signed on July 3 during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Georgia. They also discussed developing a roadmap and identifying priority areas for cooperation, especially in waste management, including examining Georgia’s experience with separate waste collection, sorting, and recycling.
Special emphasis was placed on cooperation during the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Specifically, the discussion focused on projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change, and developing climate finance mechanisms. The parties also explored prospects for joint environmental and climate projects in collaboration with international financial institutions and organizations such as the GEF, GCF, UNDP, and the EU.
An agreement was made to establish a joint working group, appoint national coordinators, and hold regular expert consultations.
A mutual interest in developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Georgia in ecology, environmental protection, and climate change was reaffirmed.
