Uzbek products presented at an agricultural exhibition in Malaysia
Uzbekistan is taking part for the first time in the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) International Exhibition, which is taking place in the Malaysian state of Selangor.
The renowned exhibition, taking place every two years, spans 130 hectares and features over 2,000 companies. Anticipated attendance exceeds 5 million visitors.
At Uzbekistan’s national pavilion, 15 local entrepreneurs showcase approximately 100 product varieties, such as fresh and dried fruits, canned foods, juices, traditional sweets, mineral fertilizers, and handicrafts.
Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad Sabu, along with other officials, visited Uzbekistan’s pavilion and commended the country’s products for their quality, diversity, and export potential.
During the exhibition, the Uzbekistan delegation is holding bilateral meetings and B2B negotiations with representatives from government agencies, leading companies, investors, and entrepreneurs in Malaysia.
Discussions with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security focused on enhancing cooperation, opening the ministry’s representative office in Tashkent, facilitating the transfer of advanced technologies, and expanding experience exchange among specialists.
The leadership of the Uzbek Academy of Agricultural Sciences discussed advanced training opportunities with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). They agreed to establish short-term research internships for the Academy’s researchers at MARDI.
Additionally, an agreement was reached with the marketing agency FAMA to grow Malaysian varieties of watermelons, melons, and vegetables in Uzbekistan, for later export to Malaysia. Discussions also included exploring advanced agricultural practices and developing agritourism with representatives from the Department of Fisheries and BERNAS.
Following B2B meetings between key Malaysian companies and Uzbekistan entrepreneurs, they reached agreements to supply Uzbek products to Malaysia and signed the necessary contracts.
