NBU plans to become the first Uzbek issuer to enter the Chinese capital market with a $250 million bond offering
On September 9-10, 2026, during a high-level visit by a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NBU) and China International Capital Corporation (CICC) reached an agreement to cooperate in the Asian capital market.
On the sidelines of the 11th Belt and Road Summit, the parties signed an agreement to issue and list international bonds denominated in CNY and UZS on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with a total equivalent value of $250 million.
The agreement marks NBU’s initial entry into the Asian debt capital market, opening new opportunities to expand the bank’s international borrowing footprint. This move will diversify funding sources and currencies, broaden the international investor base, and attract capital from Asia to support key investment projects in Uzbekistan.
