Issues related to the development of the space industry discussed
Tashkent hosted a press conference focused on the development of the space industry, the creation of modern infrastructure, and the expansion of international cooperation in this field.
During the event, it was noted that the Law “On Space Activities”, adopted in 2025, and the Presidential Decree aimed at expanding the use of aerospace data have become an important legal basis for the sector’s development. These documents open up broad opportunities to introduce space technologies into the economy, agriculture, ecology, and water management.
The Uzcosmos Agency is implementing several projects as part of the state space monitoring system. In particular, a satellite-based system for detecting fires on agricultural land has been introduced. As a result, the number of registered cases decreased from 2,200 in 2024 to 130 in 2025, and the number of repeated fires fell by 94 percent.
In addition, digital platforms based on space technologies have been launched to monitor tree felling, oversee green areas, and ensure efficient water resource management.
Special attention at the press conference was given to international cooperation. In particular, the holding of the International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand in 2028 was named as a historic achievement for the national space industry.
Participants were also informed about efforts to attract young people to the sector. It was emphasized that thousands of young people are actively participating in projects such as the Cosmic Camp, the CanSat mini-satellite competition, the NASA Space Apps Challenge hackathon, and the Space Fest.
As part of the event, renowned American astronaut Andrew Feustel, who spent 226 days in orbit and participated in three space flights, delivered a speech. He answered questions about life in space, the prospects of space research, and ways to spark young people’s interest in science.
The event also provided information on efforts to launch Uzbekistan’s first scientific satellite. It was noted that implementing this project will contribute to developing the country’s space infrastructure.
