Discussion on advancing cooperation in tourism
The Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Akkulov met with Ming Zhang, Global Director for Urban, Subnational Finance, Tourism, and Disaster Management at the World Bank Group.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank to develop the tourism sector, increase the regions’ economic potential, and build sustainable infrastructure.

It was noted that the implementation of the tourism development goals outlined in the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy is in its final stage, and the World Bank is ready to provide expert support for implementing a number of projects in this area.
An exchange of views took place on the Central Asia Tourist Ring project, proposed at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan.

The parties also addressed the development of tourism infrastructure. It was noted that in recent years, public investment in this area has been steadily increasing, contributing to the creation of new tourist facilities, the expansion of the range of services, and the growth of residents’ incomes.
In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of jointly organizing short-term educational programs with the World Bank to enhance the capacity of tourism directorate divisions in the regions, improve project management, ensure financial sustainability, and introduce international experience.
The parties exchanged views on projects to create a convenient navigation system for tourists, which include the installation of 700 tourist road signs and navigation signs along major highways throughout the country, as well as the construction of modern service zones and facilities.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in infrastructure financing, strengthen institutional capacity, and exchange experience to support tourism as an important driver of economic growth, job creation, and the comprehensive development of regions.
