Charvak wind power plant commissioned
Uzbekistan continues to work to use renewable energy sources more effectively and increase the share of green energy. A key project in this effort is the 20 MW Charvak Wind Power Plant, located in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region.
A ceremony marked the plant’s commissioning.
Uzbekhydroenergo JSC management and staff, representatives from the Tashkent regional and Bostanlyk district administrations, local community members, and Chinese specialists attended the event.
During the ceremony, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC Azimjon Ahmadjonov, Bostanlyk District Hokim Jurabek Akhmedov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Uzbekistan Yu Jun, and others highlighted that the project’s completion reflects the ongoing strategic partnership and collaboration between Uzbekistan and China.

According to Mr. Ahmadjonov, the Chinese government provided a $28 million grant to implement the project.
“The commissioning of the Charvak Wind Power Plant marks a key milestone in our push to expand renewable energy. The plant has four state-of-the-art wind turbines, each with a 5 MW capacity, for a total of 20 MW. It is expected to produce up to 50 million kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power nearly 20,000 homes. Wind energy will help conserve traditional fuel resources and supply additional green power to the grid. Uzbekhydroenergo JSC considers renewable development a strategic goal, and the Charvak Wind Power Plant is a clear example of these efforts. We aim to expand such projects and adopt modern technologies”, said Mr. Ahmadjonov.

During the plant’s construction and commissioning, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC completed the necessary organizational and technical work. They prepared the engineering infrastructure, connected the plant to the power grid, and installed modern wind turbines.
Experts indicate that using wind energy can reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources for electricity production. The plant’s startup is projected to save large amounts of natural gas and coal each year and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
This factor will play a crucial role in increasing renewable energy adoption, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting environmental sustainability.
