67 new sites added to Uzbekistan’s heritage registry
Uzbekistan has updated the state list of cultural heritage sites, adding new historical buildings and architectural complexes across several regions of the country.
This was reported by the country’s Cultural Heritage Agency. Previously, 8,370 monuments were under state protection. Under the new resolution, the total number of protected sites has increased to 8,437.
In the capital, several buildings from different historical periods have been designated cultural heritage sites. In Shaykhantakhur district, the list includes the complex of the P. Benkov Republican Specialized Art School, built in 1919. The school is one of Uzbekistan’s oldest art education centers. In Chilanzar district, the famous “Houses of Specialists” – four-story residential buildings constructed in 1932-1934 at 16 and 18 Beshagach Street – have been placed under state protection.
In Yakkasaray district, two sites on Shota Rustaveli Street were added to the list at once: a 19th-century residential building and a four-story residential building built in 1956. Another cultural heritage site is the radio station building and two 90-meter radio masts, dating back to 1915, located in Yashnabad district at 15 Fergana Yuli Street. This is a rare example of early-20th-century engineering infrastructure in Central Asia.
According to the resolution, new cultural heritage sites have appeared not only in the capital but also in other regions of the country. From now on, they will be officially registered and placed under state protection.
