Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan celebrated in Tashkent
A solemn official reception dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan – was held in Tashkent. The event was organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan in collaboration with the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center.
The ceremony was attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Achilbay Ramatov, representatives of the diplomatic corps, government bodies, parliament, public, cultural and business circles, the media, and the Azerbaijani diaspora.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev noted that May 28 holds a special place in the history of Azerbaijani statehood and symbolizes the people’s aspiration for independence and sovereign development. After regaining independence in 1991, Azerbaijan, despite complex historical and political processes, continued on its course toward sustainable development. Azerbaijan’s 2020 victory and the full restoration of sovereignty in 2023 were noted separately. According to the diplomat, these developments opened new opportunities for regional cooperation and strengthened stability.
As part of the reception, an exhibition was organized to showcase the architectural monuments of Western Azerbaijan and its destroyed historical and cultural heritage.
A cultural program was also prepared for the participants, highlighting Azerbaijan’s rich traditions, art, and modern development. The organizers emphasized that holding the event in Tashkent was another step toward strengthening the allied, friendly, and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
