Uzbekistan’s efforts to eliminate child labor are acknowledged internationally
During the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, an event called “Red Card to Child Labour: From Marrakech to Action” was organized to commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour.
Representatives from 187 countries discussed topics such as eradicating child labor, protecting children’s rights, promoting the principles of decent work, and enhancing international cooperation in this field.
Uzbekistan's delegation showcased the outcomes of extensive reforms in labor, social protection, and education during the conference.

The international community recognizes that the near-total eradication of child labor in the country is due to persistent government policies, a comprehensive social protection system, and successful international collaboration.
In her speech, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and head of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Decent Work, highlighted that combating child labor requires more than just legal bans. Sustainable progress depends on addressing and removing the root causes.
“Reducing poverty, strengthening social protections, and expanding access to quality education and decent work are essential in preventing child labor”, Ms. Narbayeva emphasized. “Thanks to the strong political will of the Head of State, ongoing and systematic reforms, and close collaboration with international organizations, Uzbekistan has nearly eradicated child labor. Effective and sustainable measures are now in place to ensure this issue does not return”.

It was highlighted that collaboration with the International Labour Organization, employers, and trade unions, along with the consistent application of ILO recommendations, was crucial in attaining these outcomes.
The event participants highlighted that today, factors like conflicts, migration, climate change, and informal work are raising the risk of child labor.
They highlighted the significance of adopting the Marrakech Global Framework for Action and stressed the urgency of intensifying practical efforts to eradicate child labor.
