Uzbekistan – Türkiye: Cooperation in the critical minerals sector is expanding
Relations between Uzbekistan and Türkiye are characterized by centuries-old ties and shared cultural and value-based foundations. Cooperation spans both diplomatic and strategically important economic projects.
Particular attention should be given to expanding cooperation in the field of critical minerals.
Today, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Türkiye exceeds $3 billion. More than 2,000 enterprises with Turkish capital operate in Uzbekistan, and the total investment in these projects exceeds $9 billion.
The global economy is transitioning toward renewable energy and advanced technologies. In this context, the importance of critical minerals such as tungsten, molybdenum, graphite, and lithium is increasing. Uzbekistan and Türkiye are acting not only as suppliers of raw materials but also as strategic partners, jointly implementing projects to build a complete technological chain.
An important step in this direction was the establishment of the Uzbekistan Technological Metals Complex in 2024, initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Today, the plant, together with Türkiye, is engaged in the deep processing of critical raw materials.
As part of a cooperation with the Turkish industrial center OSTIM, a Future Metals Technopark and a research center were established.
Together with ODAS Enerji, an antimony production plant was built. Modern laboratory research is also being conducted in cooperation with Argetest. A strategic partnership in powder metallurgy is underway with Sinter Metal Technologies.
The projects combine Uzbekistan’s natural resources, Türkiye’s technological achievements, and global market opportunities.
Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye in the field of critical minerals is creating a new economic model for Central Asia, contributing to the region’s sustainable development and strengthening its competitiveness in the international arena.
