Uzbekistan and the UK: 46 joint projects opening up new economic opportunities
Tashkent hosted the second meeting of the Uzbek-British Economic Committee. The parties discussed ways to expand bilateral trade, attract mutual investment, and develop industrial cooperation.
Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, and Lord Anas Sarwar, the UK Minister of State for Trade, co-chaired the meeting. Participants noted that trade turnover between the two countries rose by 12.6 percent from January to August 2026, reaching nearly $250 million.
The participants focused on expanding access for Uzbek products to the British market, simplifying certification procedures, and removing trade barriers. They also emphasized making more effective use of the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).
The parties considered the prospects for implementing 46 joint projects, expanding financing mechanisms with the participation of the UK Export Finance, and developing cooperation in critical minerals, electrical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and transport engineering.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a protocol formalizing the agreements reached on trade, investment, industry, digital technologies, finance, and healthcare.
