Strategic cooperation in the environmental sphere
An important memorandum has been signed, elevating cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy in the environmental sphere to a new level.
The agreement was concluded between the Center for State Environmental Expertise and the Italian office of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and aims to introduce artificial intelligence technologies into the environmental impact assessment system and enhance the capacity of specialists in the sector.
The memorandum will be implemented under IAIA’s international Permitting 5.0 concept as part of the Environmental Governance Platform. The initiative aims to raise the transparency, quality, and efficiency of environmental assessment procedures to international standards.
The introduction of artificial intelligence tools is planned to automate the analysis of environmental documentation, preliminary project assessment, and forecasting of their cumulative impact. The testing of innovative technologies in environmental expertise, the development of national methodologies and guidelines, and the organization of international training sessions and professional development programs for specialists are also envisaged.
The memorandum, designed for a five-year term, confirms alignment of the parties’ long-term strategic goals. According to experts, this initiative is of great importance for the development of the green economy in Uzbekistan, increasing the country’s investment attractiveness, and introducing modern models of environmental governance.
