Mohammad Ali Eskandari: “Iran considers Uzbekistan an important partner in Central Asia”
Uzbekistan celebrated 35 years of independence, highlighting notable achievements. In recent years, the nation has positioned itself as a sovereign state actively pursuing its national interests globally, backed by a unique diplomatic approach and a strong political culture.
Over the last ten years, Uzbekistan’s foreign policy has shifted significantly. The nation continues to uphold core principles such as sovereignty, non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs, and peaceful conflict resolution, yet it has become more open, proactive, and pragmatic in its international approach.
This strategy, focused on fostering a positive and secure environment regionally and globally, has gained significant trust from the international community. A clear example is the recognition of New Uzbekistan’s commitment to openness and good neighborliness, highlighted in Independence Day messages from foreign ambassadors accredited to Uzbekistan.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Uzbekistan, Mohammad Ali Eskandari, also extended his congratulations on the country’s most significant and cherished holiday.
– Today, Uzbekistan, drawing on its economic, historical, and civilizational potential, is playing an increasingly important role in Central Asia and in the regional relations system, guided by the principles of good-neighborliness, constructive dialogue, and cooperation, – the diplomat noted. The Islamic Republic of Iran highly appreciates Uzbekistan’s role in strengthening regional peace, stability, security, and cooperation.
The relations between our countries are built on longstanding mutual respect, friendship, and shared historical, cultural, and civilizational bonds. Our shared heritage is a lasting asset that provides a strong basis for strengthening ties between our nations.
The leaders of both countries have demonstrated political will, opening new avenues to deepen their comprehensive cooperation. Iran regards Uzbekistan as a significant partner in Central Asia and believes that expanding trade and economic connections is crucial for strengthening their bilateral relations.
The two countries have complementary strengths in sectors like industry, mining, agriculture, energy, technology, healthcare, investment, engineering services, tourism, and transport. This creates numerous opportunities for private sector involvement and joint projects. Additionally, Iran’s strategic location with sea access, coupled with Central Asia’s economic potential, offers significant prospects for developing transit routes, boosting trade, and enhancing regional connectivity.
Expanding collaboration in science, academia, culture, and tourism, along with increasing interactions between our peoples and the private sector, will help reinforce long-standing ties and deepen mutual understanding.
Iran believes that strengthening ties with Tashkent will promote shared interests, support economic growth, enhance regional integration, and foster peace, stability, and prosperity in Central Asia and nearby areas.
Thanks to the political will of the leaders of both countries, the support of our peoples, and the active engagement of the business communities, relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Uzbekistan will deepen and reach a strategic level in the coming years.
