Memory of Islam Karimov lives on

Today, a ceremony took place in Samarkand to commemorate the Day of Remembrance of Islam Karimov, the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Hokim of Samarkand region A. Boboyev and regional officials visited the Hazrat Khizr Complex and paid tribute at the mausoleum of Islam Karimov. Verses from the Qur’an were recited, and prayers were offered.

Islam Karimov was a prominent leader who declared Uzbekistan’s independence, restructured the public administration system, maintained stability during challenging times, and protected people’s interests. Under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership, the First President’s memory has been honored through annual commemorations of his birth and death dates. Numerous spiritual and educational events are organized, and many central streets and key landmarks across the country are named after him. The Scientific and Enlightenment Memorial Complex named after Islam Karimov has been established in Tashkent, a mausoleum was built in Samarkand, and statues of him have been erected in the capital and other major cities.

Participants in the ceremony laid flowers at the monument to Islam Karimov in Samarkand. The First President’s contribution to the development of independent Uzbekistan was commemorated.
