Issues of circular economy development in Central Asian countries discussed
The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the European Union delegation implementing the SWITCH-Asia program and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, organized the third regional dialogue on scaling up the circular economy in Central Asia through business leadership, innovation, and investment.
Members of the Senate, representatives of the parliaments of Central Asian countries, heads of ministries and agencies, experts from the European Union and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, and representatives of international organizations and industry specialists attended the event.
During the dialogue, measures to strengthen cooperation in implementing circular economy principles at the national level in Central Asian countries were discussed.
Participants in the event paid special attention to the role of parliaments in effectively establishing long-term regional environmental governance and in strengthening direct partnership ties.
Issues related to improving legislative initiatives and expanding public-private sector cooperation were discussed.
Participants also exchanged views on issues related to economic transformation through business, investment, and innovation, the rational and efficient use of resources, and the implementation of policy measures aimed at reducing waste volumes.
Following the event, the need to expand interparliamentary and institutional cooperation among Central Asian countries in the circular economy was emphasized, as was the need to enhance the role of legislative bodies in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
