Uzbekistan and UN Tourism take cooperation to a new level
During the 72nd Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Akkulov met with the Secretary-General of UN Tourism Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary General stressed that the initiatives put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during her visit to Uzbekistan in April 2026 were identified as priority areas for the organization’s activities.
During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation and agreed to elevate cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Tourism to a qualitatively new level. Special attention was paid to implementing joint projects and to strengthening the partnership in strategic areas of tourism development.
Following the meeting, a bilateral protocol of intent on cooperation was signed. The document provides for cooperation in sustainable tourism, the promotion of new tourist destinations, the development of tourism along the Great Silk Road, and the accelerated development of the tourism education system.
