The President of Uzbekistan advocates the expansion of a comprehensive partnership with ADB
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of his program in Samarkand, received a delegation from the Asian Development Bank, led by the President of this prominent multilateral financial institution, Masato Kanda.
The head of the ADB sincerely thanked the President of Uzbekistan for the support and assistance in hosting the 59th Annual Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors.

The parties reviewed practical aspects of expanding comprehensive, mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank.
The high level of cooperation achieved was noted with deep satisfaction. Over the past 30 years, the ADB has become a true strategic partner of Uzbekistan.

The project portfolio totals nearly $16 billion, placing Uzbekistan among the Bank’s largest partners in the region by financing volume.
Major projects have been implemented and continue to be carried out to modernize railways and roads, energy and social infrastructure, and water supply and sewage networks, and to develop agriculture and the private sector, among other areas.

The President of Uzbekistan and the head of the ADB emphasized the importance of the timely and effective implementation of projects worth $12.5 billion included in the new Partnership Program with the ADB through 2030, signed as part of the summit.

An agreement was reached on joint work in areas including support for the mortgage market, the private sector, youth and women’s entrepreneurship, poverty reduction, promoting reforms in inclusive education and human capital development, introducing digital innovations, and modernizing infrastructure in special economic zones.

Special attention was given to promoting major infrastructure projects in Central Asia, including efforts to strengthen the Bank’s leading role in mobilizing funds.
In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan wished the ADB leadership and staff a successful and productive Board of Governors meeting.

Following the meeting, a ceremony was held to exchange the new Partnership Program between Uzbekistan and the ADB for the period through 2030.
