Zhumabek Sarabekov: SCO can act as a tool to prevent the adverse effects of climate change
18:22 / 2024-06-05

Zhumabek Sarabekov, Head of the Eurasian Studies Program of the Institute of World Economy and Politics at the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, shared this point of view at a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum in Tashkent.

Addressing the event, the expert focused on the prospects for developing the SCO at the present stage.

In this context, he pointed out that despite the enormous partnership opportunities within the framework of the structure in such areas as trade, investment, and energy, this potential has not been sufficiently realized. “The SCO’s economic track is still far behind in terms of development dynamics”, he believes.

In addition, Sarabekov stressed that global warming is one of the main challenges that threatens all member countries. The expert is convinced that the SCO could act as a key regional instrument to prevent the negative effects of climate change.
