World celebrates No Tobacco Day

In connection with this date, Tashkent hosted a round table discussion on “Development in Uzbekistan of a roadmap for the fight against tobacco”.The event, organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the World Health Organization country office in Uzbekistan, was attended by representatives of state and public organizations, doctors.
At the event, measures taken in the country to combat smoking were discussed. The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2018 is “Tobacco and heart disease”.
Tobacco use is an important risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. The global tobacco epidemic kills more than 7 million people each year, of which close to 900 thousand are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke.
According to the forecasts of the World Health Organization, based on the latest indicators, out of 2.8 million smoking adults in Uzbekistan, half are at risk of premature death due to smoking. At the event, participants agreed to strictly follow the developed roadmap on combating smoking, drawing attention of public to this process.
