Women’s Health Protection in Uzbekistan
14:21 / 2022-05-26

Tashkent hosted a press briefing aimed at raising public awareness about cervical cancer. The event was organized with the support of the United Nations Population Fund.

Briefing speakers noted that in Uzbekistan, as well as throughout the world, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women of all ages and the second most common cause of death among women of childbearing age (15-45) after breast cancer.

Journalists got acquainted with the results of a pilot project on HPV testing for early detection of cervical cancer among women aged 30-55 years of the UNDP-UNFPA Program “Building Resilience of Local Communities to Threats to Health, Environmental and Economic Insecurity in the Aral Sea Region”, funded by the Government of Japan.

The speakers of the meeting urged not to be skeptical about the effectiveness of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, imported into the country in 2019, and to avoid any false information.
