The Senate of the Oliy Majlis hosted a meeting with the World Bank representatives.

Last year, the bank’s Board of Directors approved a cooperation program with Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

During the meeting, projects to develop human capital and ensure gender equality were discussed. Representatives of ministries and agencies participating in these projects and World Bank experts were involved in the dialogue.

In Uzbekistan, several studies were conducted by representatives of a reputable financial organization, and a conclusion was prepared on the results of a gender assessment in Uzbekistan. It includes four areas: gender norms and social expectations, human capital, economic opportunity, and actions to increase the voice and freedom of women in the country. According to the World Bank representatives, the conclusions were prepared based on the results of work, research, and observations conducted in the country in 2018-2022 and partly in 2023, as well as statistical data.

Representatives of ministries and agencies focused on the work carried out in Uzbekistan to protect the rights and legitimate interests of women, increase their economic, social, and political activity, and ensure gender equality. They noted that significant reforms have been implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years, and it is essential to reflect the results in the report.

Considering the proposals and considerations at the meeting, an agreement was reached to improve the final document.
