Tashkent hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Women in the SCO Space: Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”.
The event, organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the SCO Center for Public Diplomacy in Uzbekistan, was attended by representatives of the parliament, heads of women’s organizations of the SCO member states, business, culture, science and education.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva sent a video message to the participants of the event and expressed confidence that the event would be held at a high level and important decisions would be made to achieve positive results.
It was noted that in Uzbekistan the issue of gender equality was raised to the level of state policy. The Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 has been approved and a solid legislative framework has been created to improve the status of women.
Attention was drawn to strengthening the exchange of experience of the SCO countries in protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women, further enhancing their role and activity in the socio-political sphere, and broad involvement in scientific activities.
At the event, views were exchanged on enhancing the role of women in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Following the conference, relevant recommendations and proposals were developed, which will become the basis for the preparation of new projects and programs to protect the rights and interests of women, ensure gender equality, effectively promote women’s leadership and entrepreneurship, and cooperation in the SCO space.
