11:03 / 2023-02-08

The Director of the International Institute for Central Asia Vladimir Norov noted at the roundtable discussion on “Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan: New Prospects for Strategic Partnership” that this visit was a historic, breakthrough event in relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The Director emphasized that following the talks at the highest level, 25 bilateral documents were signed, covering almost all areas of cooperation.

The Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership became the key document, which brought the relations to a qualitatively new level.

“Thanks to the firm political will and tireless joint efforts of the heads of state, the Treaty between our countries on certain sections of the interstate border was signed and ratified, which is a monumental diplomatic achievement in Central Asia.

The issue of delimitation was declared finally settled, which for many years was a source of interstate tension and hindered the full potential of bilateral cooperation, the establishment of lasting peace and sustainable development in Central Asia.

As the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted, “The complete settlement of the issue of border delimitation will certainly play an important role in the development of bilateral cooperation and cross-border exchanges, and will contribute to strengthening stability and security in our region”.

We would not have achieved today’s results without the political will of the leadership of Kyrgyzstan, he said.

As the President of Uzbekistan said, “Today we have no problematic issues.

This level of relationship exists for the first time in 31 years of independent history of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan”.

In turn, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said that “By putting an end to border issues, we will lay a solid foundation for a solid and confident development and prosperity of our future generations.

At the same time, emphasizing the invaluable role of Shavkat Miromonovich in resolving important issues on the delimitation of the Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan border, President Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that “for Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan is a neighbor in spirit, a true friend and a reliable strategic partner”.
