On 10 August 2022, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov held online talks with ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Alisjahbana, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

Ms. Armida Alisjahbana expressed gratitude for the proactive role of Uzbekistan in promoting trade-economic cooperation in the Central Asian region, new interregional transport corridors, strengthening connectivity with South Asia and other regions.

It was emphasized that the efforts of the country’s leadership to integrate Afghanistan into regional economic processes deserve high praise from the international community.

Specific areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and ESCAP, the participation of Uzbekistan representatives in the upcoming international events of the Commission were discussed during the conversation.

The main attention was paid to the further promotion and practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the establishment of a Regional center for the development of transport and communication connectivity under the auspices of the UN in Tashkent.

Ms. Armida Alisjahbana confirmed her participation in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held in Samarkand in September this year, during which it is planned to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between ESCAP and the SCO.
