Viticulture – profitable industry
The “Sakhovat” mahalla population in Bukhara district is mainly engaged in viticulture. Work is in full swing from early spring to late autumn: as soon as a vine buried in the ground peeps through, watering, fertilizing, and chasing begin, then – harvesting, sorting, drying berries, pruning, and preparation for winter.
The mahalla residents grow mainly industrial grapes varieties on an area of 320 hectares. Some families annually earn up to 80-90 million UZS.

“Viticulture is a profitable industry”, says Bakhtiyor Kurbanov, one of the local winegrowers. – Young vines that grow in place of old ones allow to harvest grapes for 500 years. If you do not be late with the care, the grapes will never be subject to disease.
This is a decisive period for every family involved in viticulture. These days, the mahalla residents mobilized all their strength and energy for the harvest.

By the way, in Bukhara region, grapes are grown by farms on 1,226 hectares. Nearly 2,000 people are employed in this sector in permanent and seasonal work.
