Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, noted that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the United States has opened up broad prospects for further development in agriculture, private business, mechanization, science, and innovation.
“During the visit, we held several meetings with American partners, particularly in the area of mechanization. John Deere has been successfully operating in Uzbekistan for several years, and its equipment is in high demand among farmers. We agreed to further develop this direction, including the supply of modern machinery equipped with artificial intelligence and automatic control systems, on terms favorable to agricultural producers”, the minister emphasized.
According to Abdurakhmonov, one of the key aspects was water conservation. An agreement was reached with the American company Valmont to purchase sprinkler systems for irrigating pastures and growing forage crops in steppe areas, which is of great importance for livestock farming.
In addition, both parties discussed introducing new technologies and breeding solutions.
“We have begun cooperation with agronomists from an American university in growing feed pumpkins – large, highly nutritious crops used in livestock diets. We have also received approval for the transfer of technology to produce gossypol-free cotton, which will improve cotton quality and expand opportunities for oil processing”, the minister noted.
Special attention was given to developing educational exchanges. Several students from Uzbekistan are already studying at American agricultural universities, and the Uzbek side plans to expand this experience by adopting the model of U.S. institutions such as Alabama A&M University, which combine research, education, and practical work with farmers.
Discussions also covered the import of soybean meal and flour for livestock and poultry farming, which, according to the minister, will contribute not only to food security but also to the rational use of water resources.
“Overall, the agreements reached open new opportunities for our country to increase trade, introduce innovations in the agricultural sector, and strengthen scientific and educational cooperation”, Mr. Abdurakhmonov concluded.
