Uzbekistan’s Third Periodic Report is under consideration

The Third Periodic National Report of Uzbekistan is being considered at the 71st Session of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Uzbekistan delegation is taking part in the consideration of the Third Periodic Report via videoconference.

It should be noted that the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights is a UN treaty body that monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The Committee consists of 18 members, who are elected by the UN Economic and Social Council every 4 years, and studies the reports of the States parties to the above-mentioned International Covenant, then submits their proposals for the development of the sphere of human rights protection.

The Third Periodic National Report of Uzbekistan was submitted to the Committee on June 19, 2019. About 30 state bodies and 10 non-governmental non-profit organizations participated in its preparation.

The report presents full-fledged data on the implementation of the rules of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in the legislation and law enforcement practice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, work and achievements in this direction. In particular, the report highlights such issues as the development of national institutions for the protection of human rights, combating corruption, eradicating harassment and discrimination, ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities, gender equality, employment, poverty reduction, strengthening social protection, protecting the rights of migrant workers, developing the health system, ensuring the rights to education and others.
