The Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations are being implemented all over the world. An expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Monitoring the Implementation of National Goals and Objectives for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place in Astana.
A delegation of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis led by Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security Affairs Qutbiddin Burkhanov took part in the meeting on “Sustainable Development of Central Asia: The role of parliaments and local representative authorities”.
The role of parliaments and local representative bodies in ensuring the sustainable development of the region’s countries was discussed at the event, which brought together parliamentarians from Central Asian countries, representatives of international organizations, experts and specialists.

The active role of the Parliamentary Commission in monitoring the implementation of the national SDGs in Uzbekistan and the implementation of large-scale reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of the population was emphasized.
The participants noted that Uzbekistan is an example of integrating global priorities into the national agenda, demonstrating significant progress in achieving the SDGs and confirming readiness for further cooperation at the regional and international levels.
Special attention was paid to environmental threats such as climate change, water scarcity, desertification, and water and energy security issues.
The participants stressed the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, exchanging legislative experience, and cooperating with local representative authorities to address these issues.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on further strengthening interparliamentary cooperation to achieve harmonious, inclusive, and balanced development of the region’s countries.
