Tashkent hosted an introductory workshop on the technical cooperation program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations “The recovery and development of the potato sector in response to COVID-19”.
FAO will assist in the implementation of a $195,000 worth project in Uzbekistan for 2021-2023. The project will be implemented under the Human Rights-Based Approach, which also takes into account gender aspects.
The event was attended by FAO experts, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, members of research institutes and other relevant organizations.
The implementation of the project will contribute to the development of a sustainable potato production system based on advanced foreign experience. Improvement of potato variety registration and seed certification systems will provide farmers with access to qualitative potato seed material. The project also includes training workshops to further improve the potato sector in Uzbekistan.
