The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sodiq Safoyev, received a delegation led by the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Akihisa Nagashima.

At the meeting, key aspects of the strong friendship and strategic partnership between Japan and Uzbekistan were discussed.

Akihisa Nagashima highly praised the positive and multifaceted changes resulting from Uzbekistan’s accelerated reforms. He emphasized that the country’s open and pragmatic foreign policy is recognized internationally.

In particular, it was noted that thanks to the efforts of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, long-standing issues concerning Central Asian countries are being addressed, and close neighborly relations are being strengthened.

As part of efforts to further expand Japan’s ties with the region, an exchange of views took place on advancing initiatives within the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue and preparations for a major international summit.

The discussion also focused on the activities of friendship groups within the framework of interparliamentary cooperation, the exchange of legislative experience, and the importance of strengthening parliamentary dialogue at all levels.

Both sides emphasized their interest in developing partnerships in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian, and other areas.
