Uzbekistan’s activities against forced labor recognized

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Chairperson of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Cotton Campaign Co-Founder Bennett Freeman.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation.

The National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor effectively coordinates the activities of the relevant ministries and agencies in this area. Several measures have been taken based on the proposals and recommendations of the international community, in particular, the International Labour Organization, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Labor, as well as the Cotton Campaign.

At the meeting, the strengthening of criminal liability for the use of forced labor, the reform of agriculture, as well as the abolition of state regulation of cotton production, its pricing and forced sale were noted.

Cotton Campaign Co-Founder Bennett Freeman noted that the efforts of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor are practical and systematic, the results are recognized not only in the country, but also in the international community.

An agreement was reached to further strengthen relations and develop cooperation.
