Uzbekistan, US strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation

Tashkent hosted the meeting of the heads of foreign policy departments of Uzbekistan and the United States within the framework of the official visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Uzbekistan.

On February 3, Tashkent hosted the meeting of the heads of foreign policy departments of Uzbekistan and the United States within the framework of the official visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Uzbekistan.

Implementation of agreements reached within the framework of Uzbekistan – US Summit at the highest level in Washington in May 2018 was discussed during the negotiations. Views were exchanged on the current issues of the international agenda.

Following the negotiations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and the U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo held a press conference for media representatives.

It was noted that the negotiations were fruitful. Relations between the two countries have reached a high pace, covering various areas of cooperation. Interaction has a systematic and regular feature. This is largely due to the joint efforts and personal will of Uzbekistan and the United States Presidents, as well as recognition by the United States of large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Uzbek side expressed its readiness to create favorable conditions for business representatives of the United States, support and promote joint investment projects in Uzbekistan.

In turn, Washington recognizes that human factor concept is becoming more important in Uzbekistan, in particular, the country is carrying out drastic positive changes in such important democratic process as religious freedom, complete elimination of involvement of children in forced labor, protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as provision of freedom of speech.

Abdulaziz Kamilov and Michael Pompeo noted that issues related to joint fight against modern threats, their prevention, including establishment of peace in Afghanistan, were also discussed. It was noted that sides agreed to provide practical assistance to Afghanistan, further strengthen and attract this country to trade-economic and transport-communication relations.

The sides confirmed that strengthening of relations between the two countries has reached a high level today, at the same time it has gained stability, and the parties efforts will be directed to further identify new mutually beneficial areas of strategic partnership.
