The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UK organized virtual talks between Coordinator of the Project of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan Yekaterina Soboleva and Curator of Manuscripts of the Turkic, Persian and Arabic Collections of John Rylands Research Institute and Library at the University of Manchester Elizabeth Gow.
The parties discussed the possibility of establishing a partnership between the two structures for the joint study, cataloging and creation of facsimile of manuscripts on the history and culture of Uzbekistan, stored in the library of the University of Manchester.
Alisher Navoi’s “Layla and Majnun”, written by the great author in the old Chagatai language is among such artifacts. The parties planned to create a facsimile of this manuscript for research purposes as part of the multi-volume book-album “The cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world”.
An agreement was also reached to conduct scientific research together with Uzbekistan researchers to study the manuscripts stored in the library of the University of Manchester, as well as the collections and libraries of Uzbekistan.
