Virtual talks have been held between the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Director of NCHR Akmal Saidov and a member of the British House of Lords Baroness Alison Suttie and the leadership of the Global Partnership Governance (GPG).

The parties discussed the state and prospects of Uzbekistan – British cooperation, including through the legislative bodies of the two countries, as well as the practical implementation of the outlined plans to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.

At the videoconference, the parties discussed the formation in the Oliy Majlis of a new Commission for monitoring the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in human rights.

As Akmal Saidov noted, the British experience was studied in creation of the Commission, in particular the activities of the Joint Human Rights Committee of the British Parliament. It was noted that a number of meetings and detailed discussions were held with members of the Joint Committee during the visit of Uzbekistan delegation to London in February this year.
