A virtual meeting of the inter-parliamentary friendship group of Uzbekistan and the UK has taken place.
According to the Senate, the meeting was attended by the Head of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Uzbekistan Andrew Bridgen, the Head of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the UK – the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoyev, members of both chambers of Uzbekistan parliament.
The parties discussed the state and prospects of inter-parliamentary interaction in development of cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, issues of strengthening Uzbekistan – British relations after the Brexit, as well as during and after the pandemic.
Views were exchanged on further developing ties, strengthening interaction between the two countries within the framework of the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The parties exchanged information on the measures taken in Uzbekistan and the UK to counter coronavirus infection, mitigate its consequences on the economy and social life of the two countries.
British parliamentarians welcomed the achievements of Uzbekistan in the socio-economic and socio-political spheres. They highly appreciated the efforts undertaken under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen peace and stability in Central Asia.
