Uzbekistan, UK discuss prospects for inter-parliamentary dialogue
09:00 / 2024-03-26

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the UK Ravshan Usmanov met with a Member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, Lord Peter Lilley, in London.

During the talks, the British side was informed about the large-scale reforms being carried out in New Uzbekistan, including developing parliamentarism, ensuring human rights and freedoms, and strengthening the role of civil society institutions.

Lord Peter Lilley noted with satisfaction the noticeable intensification of British-Uzbek inter-parliamentary relations over the past year. Strengthening this dialogue will create additional mechanisms for further implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects in areas of mutual interest.

The parties shared the opinion on the need to intensify trade-economic and investment cooperation and attract leading British companies to Uzbekistan to implement projects in areas such as mining, telecommunications, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and education.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue contact and discuss practical steps to realize the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries.
