Tashkent hosted an event dedicated to laying the foundation of a wind power plant in Zarafshan district of Navoi region.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber and the CEO of Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, via videoconference. It was noted that relations between the two countries open up new opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector.
With the signing of a new agreement, the capacity of the project, which will be located in Zarafshan district of Navoi region, has increased to 1.5 GW, which will further help Uzbekistan achieve its goals of generating up to 3 GW of energy by 2030 from wind power plants.
It was emphasized that the launch of a 500 MW wind power plant in Navoi region is planned for the end of 2024. The WPP will generate electricity, which will provide 500 thousand homes. At the same time, the annual emission of up to 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere will be eliminated.
Following the event, an agreement was signed to enhance the capacity of the WPP project.
