Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan strengthen strategic partnership

Following the talks, a briefing was held for media representatives.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and all the fraternal Turkmen people for the traditionally warm hospitality.

It was noted that Uzbekistan is sincerely pleased with the success of Turkmenistan, achieved thanks to the consistently implemented domestic and foreign policy under the leadership of Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

It was emphasized that the founder of all these initiatives is the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

It was noted that thanks to the common political will in recent years, it was possible to create a completely new atmosphere of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan relations and give bilateral cooperation a strategic character.

Following the talks, the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership was signed, which provides for closer cooperation both in the bilateral format and in the international arena.

“Further strengthening partnership with Turkmenistan is an invariable priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy”, the Head of the state emphasized.

It was noted that during the talks, special attention was paid to the use of wide opportunities and the introduction of effective mechanisms for realizing the great potential of both countries in the interests of the two fraternal peoples.

The parties indicated that the basis of a partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is the further expansion of trade and economic ties.

Today, the construction of the Border Trade Zone with modern infrastructure will also be launched.

“This will help increase trade, expand business contacts, create new jobs in the regions of our countries”, the President of Uzbekistan said.

In addition, agreements were reached on the active development of cooperation through the implementation of projects in industry, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics.

Priority areas of interaction in water use and environmental protection, prevention and elimination of consequences of emergencies were outlined.

The importance of continuing a constructive dialogue on the rational use of water resources of the transboundary rivers of Central Asia was emphasized.

The main attention during the talks was paid to the further expansion of inter-parliamentary dialogue and people’s diplomacy, the development of interregional ties, and the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian interaction.

“Cultural and humanitarian exchanges have always been the cornerstone, the basis of the centuries-old friendship of our fraternal peoples”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

To widely celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, the parties agreed to hold mutual Culture and Cinema Days, festivals and other events next year.

The President of Uzbekistan confirmed the commonality of the positions of the two states on the current issues of international and regional politics.

Active interaction will continue within the framework of the UN, OSCE, CIS, SCO, OTS, IFAS, and other multilateral structures.

“We agreed to further strengthen regional interaction within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia”, the Leader of Uzbekistan noted.

In addition, the presidents of the two countries agreed to step up efforts aimed at the speedy stabilization of the situation and the promotion of important infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the results of fruitful talks would contribute to the comprehensive strengthening of friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
